About
Founded in 2014, SIMCOX is a fabric and wallpaper design studio based in Erskineville Sydney. Emelia Simcox started using her skills from traditional theatrical scenic painting and design, combined with contemporary aesthetics and digital technology to create multi-layered, hand-painted art. Her designs have a strong European sensibility while coloured with an Antipodean light.
Emelia studied theatre design at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney Australia but quickly moved on to work as a scenic artist at Opera Australia. This line of work lead her to London to work in the theatres of the West End. While living in Brixton she found herself influenced and intoxicated by the exotic designs that were prevalent in the Caribbean community, enthralled by the wild colours and wax-resist techniques she found in the Nigerian fabric shops. After studying graphic design and graduating from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelors degree in Design & Applied Arts Emelia synthesized her various influences to create her rich collection of beautiful fabrics and gorgeous wallpapers
